3 glass containers of dried pastaWhen considering healthy eating, it is important to be aware of the nutrients in food, their function in providing materials for growth, maintenance and repair of our bodies, whilst regulating body processes.

Nutrients are substances which are found in our food and are necessary to life. The nutrients that are found in our food, include carbohydrate, protein and fat, plus vitamins and minerals, and each have different roles in our bodies.

The approach of Enjoy Healthy Living is to provide members with information to ensure they are receiving their nutrition from a varied, balanced diet using the different food groups and not necessarily from vitamin and mineral supplements, although these do have their place. We will advise you on the required amount of daily nutrients and portion size from these food groups. Emphasis will also be given to different age groups and particular times in your life when nutrients are increasingly important, for example, growth and development, teenagers (particularly girls) and pregnancy.

We will also demonstrate how nutrients can be lost through food preparation, storage and the cooking process.
